About ONYX

ONYX Power, part of Smiths Interconnect, was formed in 2005, it has a rich heritage dating back 30 years. Formally a division of MGE UPS Systems Inc. (the world leader in three-phase critical power), ONYX Power resulted from a management buyout of MGE's magnetics division. ONYX Power continues to pioneer new solutions, providing its customers with premium power quality products.

Operating out of a belief that ONYX's product set had unexplored potential, the founders set out to dedicate their full efforts to developing a new business based on the premises of outstanding quality, outstanding customer service, innovation and above all outstanding staff. As a wholly management owned business, ONYX Power has the ability to give to react rapidly and do whatever is needed to keep its customers satisfied. Combined with a horizontally integrated management system, ONYX can also be described as a very lean and efficient organization.

ONYX's activities are concentrated in high power magnetics with a state of the art facility that can design and build dry type power transformers from 10 kVA to 1 MVA. The transformer business is focused on specialty transformers, with the ability to turn around most products in very short lead times. In addition to having manufacturing capacity exceeding $60 million per year, ONYX is fortunate to have a seasoned staff with employee tenure averaging 15 years, boosting quality and productivity.

DC to AC inverters also form an important part of ONYX, featuring the ONYX inverter line which is recognized as an industry standard in the telecom arena. Growing at 15% a year for the last five years, the inverter market is poised to continue to grow and soon exceed $1 billion annually. ONYX will be there, expanding the inverter division with new and innovative products that already have customers excited.

The Custom Integration and Contract Manufacturing division capitalizes on ONYX's ability to build customized power management solutions cost effectively and in a very short time. Combining ONYX's sheet metal fabrication, electrical and mechanical engineering abilities and wide product sourcing resources allows ONYX to produce custom solutions that meet customer exacting requirements. To date, this has proved to be one of the most successful divisions of ONYX Power.
